Insurers promised a crack down on whiplash culture

Tougher action on the whiplash academic was promised to insurers yesterday at the insurance summit. A source at the summit explained how Ministers had declared that they would endeavor to find easier ways for whiplash claims to be turned down by insurers.

The meeting, chaired by Transport secretary Justine Greening, was held in the department for transport offices in Whitehall and attended by justice minister Jonathan Djanogly, minister of state Oliver Letwin, health minister Simon Burns and roads minister Mike Penning.

Also in attendeance were AXA UK chief executive Paul Evans, RSA UK and western European chief executive Adrian Brown, Aviva UK general insurance chief executive David McMillan, Zurich UK chief executive Stephen Lewis, Biba head of corporate affairs Graeme Trudgill and Sabre chief executive Keith Morris.

Jonathan Djanogly, when commenting on the legal aid reforms coming into force next April, said he believed that there would be a “big bang” in the whiplash arena.
